Becoming a PSO


Protective Services Officers will receive a 12 week comprehensive paid training schedule at the Victoria Police Academy. You will be required to attend training on a full-time basis Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:10pm.

Your journey at the Victoria Police Academy is about dedication, commitment and motivation to succeed. We provide you with all the tools to chart your progress towards your goal through regular practical assessments and exams.

It is not compulsory to live-in whilst training however if you choose to do so, you will gain dormitory style accommodation, meals from Monday to Friday, computer access, extensive physical training facilities and an environment conducive to study.  Recruits residing within the Academy during their training period will be required to pay a fee which is currently set at $458.22 per fortnight and includes meals and accommodation.

After the completion of your 12-week training course you will gain the knowledge, skills and confidence whilst completing an on-the-job training program for a further 3 months with a Police member.
